Stay on GP for now
You need time, and the business doesn't depend on payroll or tax table updates.
Everything, for now.
No tax or payroll updates after 2029, security patches end April 2031, and subscriptions can't be renewed after that.
Dynamics GPRunning Dynamics GP? Plan the move while it still works.
Microsoft ends Dynamics GP support, including tax and payroll updates, on 31 December 2029, with security patches only until 30 April 2031. QServices supports GP today, adds integrations and AI agents where they pay back now, and moves you to Business Central with open receivables, payables and history reconciled, keeping GP running until finance signs off.

You're in the US, Canada, UK or Australia and want to stay with Microsoft.
Open transactions, master data and summarised history, through Microsoft's own tool.
Payroll, Management Reporter and Dexterity customizations need replacing.
Business Central doesn't fit your industry or scale.
Only what a full data conversion carries.
No Microsoft tool: a full reimplementation of every process.
The move is 12 or more months away and the manual work hurts today.
GP, untouched. Integrations built to move with you.
Microsoft's own agents need Business Central online, so AI on GP is a custom build.
Licensing dates from Microsoft's GP lifecycle page. Microsoft's GP-to-Business Central tool supports the US, Canada, UK and Australia.
The cloud migration tool is good at open items and master data. Everything in the right-hand column is a separate piece of work.
| Area | Moves to Business Central | Doesn't move, or isn't listed |
|---|---|---|
| Receivables | Every open transaction type, at the amount still owed | Undeposited receipts: deposit them in GP first |
| General ledger | Chart of accounts, with extra segments as dimensions; history as period totals | Line-level detail, unless you use the Historical Snapshot |
| Payables | Open transactions at the remaining amount; vendor bank details; 1099 data from 2024 | Approval workflows |
| Inventory and purchasing | Items with costing method, quantities, lots and serials; open POs by remaining quantity | GP unit-of-measure schedules, which have no equivalent |
| History | Optional Historical Snapshot into read-only tables you can report on | Custom SmartLists and favourites |
| Everything else | Users and permissions, payroll, Management Reporter, Dexterity and VBA customizations, ISV add-ons, integrations |
From Microsoft Learn's GP-to-Business Central migration pages, October 2026. Payroll and Management Reporter replacements are confirmed by partner and vendor sources, not Microsoft.
GP stays the live system until the final migration. Business Central users are read-only in the meantime, and data copies can be re-run, moving only what changed.
Customizations, ISVs, reports, payroll and data quality listed and priced.
Inactive customers and items, unapplied cash, old batches and undeposited receipts cleared.
Dexterity changes as AL extensions, reports in Business Central or Power BI, payroll and integrations reconnected.
Migrations into a sandbox, checked with Microsoft's record-by-record validation and our own AR tie-out.
Final copy and data upgrade after a month-end close; historical years closed in Business Central.
Keep GP readable afterwards for the years your records must be kept.
Partner estimates run from 3 to 4 months for simple moves to 9 to 12 or more for complex ones.
Each one either pays back now or makes the migration easier, and most do both.
Cash application and order entry agents working through eConnect. Built to move to Business Central with you.
AI agentsBank, CRM and web store connections built against an abstraction layer, so only one end changes later.
IntegrationUndeposited and unapplied receipts are the part of every GP move that slows the cutover.
AR Cash AssessmentManagement Reporter isn't available for Business Central. Move key reports to Power BI first.

Your controller and auditor agree history: summary totals, the Historical Snapshot, or an archive.
Extensions, reports, payroll links and integrations, then test migrations reconciled line by line.
Finance signs off with the tie-outs in hand.
Once you're online, Microsoft's agents and ours take on the manual work.
Microsoft provides security patches only until 30 April 2031, with no tax, payroll or regulatory updates after 31 December 2029. Partners may offer paid support for the system itself, and we support GP environments today. After April 2031 subscriptions can't be renewed.
Partner-published estimates start at about $66,000 for core financials and $90,000 for sales and operations, and analyst ranges for Business Central implementations run from $25,000 to $150,000 or more. Customizations, payroll, reports and history decide where you land. Business Central licences list at $80 a user a month for Essentials and $110 for Premium.
Partner estimates range from 3 to 4 months for a simple move to 9 to 12 months or more for a complex one. Most of the time goes on data clean-up, rebuilding what doesn't migrate and test migrations.
They don't migrate. Dexterity, VBA and Modifier changes are rebuilt as Business Central AL extensions or replaced with AppSource apps, and many turn out to be unnecessary in Business Central's standard features.
Not Microsoft's: Copilot and Microsoft's agents need Business Central online. Custom agents can work on GP through eConnect and SQL reads, for cash application or order entry, and be rebuilt on Business Central when you move.
Ask for their plan for open receivables and unapplied cash at cutover, their experience with Microsoft's GP migration tool, how they handle payroll, Management Reporter and ISV add-ons, and who supports GP while the move happens.
The data work takes months. Find out what yours needs while GP is still fully supported.
