Business Central, set up to run itself more.
Business Central is Microsoft's ERP for small and mid-sized companies, and the destination for most GP and NAV users. QServices implements it, upgrades NAV to it, builds extensions and integrations, and puts Microsoft's agents and our own to work on the manual jobs, with your team approving what matters.
Online or on-premises. Copilot and Microsoft's agents need Business Central online.
onlineMicrosoft's upgrade paths changed in 2025: version 14 can no longer jump straight to the latest release. Find your starting point.
| You're on | The path | What it involves |
|---|---|---|
| NAV 2009, 2013 or 2013 R2 | Not a supported starting point; reimplement or step up through older versions | Usually a fresh Business Central with data migrated |
| NAV 2015 to 2018, or BC 13 | To BC 14, then version 25, then current | C/AL code converted to AL extensions on the way |
| BC 14 | To version 25 then current, or the BC14 reimplementation tool to go online | The tool brings master data, opening balances and setup only |
| BC 15 to 24 | To version 25, then current | Extensions retested at each step |
| BC 25 or later, on-premises | Direct to current, or straight to online with the cloud migration tool | The simplest move |
From Microsoft Learn's upgrade paths, October 2026. NAV 2017 extended support ends 11 Jan 2027 and NAV 2018 on 11 Jan 2028.

They're useful, and deliberately limited. Knowing the limits tells you where a custom agent or an integration still has to do the work.
| Agent | What it does | Where it stops |
|---|---|---|
| Sales Order Agent | Reads customer emails, finds the items, checks stock and drafts a quote | Matches customers by exact email address, a person approves every outgoing email, and it pauses when credits run out |
| Payables Agent | Reads supplier invoice PDFs and drafts purchase invoices | PDF only, up to 10 pages and 5 MB; 500 invoices a day; no approvals, no anomaly checks, never posts |
| Bank reconciliation with Copilot | Finds matches that the matching rules miss, such as lump sums | Preview; about 3,000 open entries |
| Custom agents | Build your own agent inside Business Central | Preview; designer in sandboxes, production through the agent SDK from 28.1 |

Analyst estimates run from about $25,000 for 10 to 25 users to $150,000 or more for larger companies, with support at roughly 25% of the implementation cost a year, plus licences at $80 or $110 a user a month. Customizations, integrations and data migration decide the number.
Partly. Its payment reconciliation journal matches payments by rule with a confidence score, and Copilot helps with lump sums. Remittances that arrive by email, PDF or portal still need reading, which is where a custom agent helps.
Ask about their NAV and AL upgrade experience, how they decide between an AppSource app and a custom extension, their integration and agent track record, and how they test extensions before each twice-yearly update.
Through API v2.0 and custom APIs, webhooks for change notices (renewed every 3 days), Dataverse for Dynamics 365 Sales, and the Power Automate connector. Online calls are throttled, so design for batching.
Approvals, notifications when records change, scheduled exports and actions started from a page. For high-volume order, EDI or bank flows, Logic Apps is usually the better engine.
Online, install Microsoft's Power BI apps for finance, sales, purchasing and more, or build your own model in Power BI Desktop. On-premises, the built-in apps aren't available, so you connect your own model.
Whether you're on NAV, mid-upgrade or already online, start with what to fix first.
