QServices is a remote-first software consultancy offering legacy system modernization to Houston clients in energy, healthcare, and logistics. We are not based in Houston, but we work with Texas companies on remote engagements with 2 to 3 hours of daily overlap during CT business hours. See our full service overview at our services page.
Houston's economy runs on three industries: energy, healthcare, and logistics. All three carry decades of accumulated software debt. The project types we see most often:
Houston companies also face real compliance constraints that shape every architecture decision. The Texas Data Privacy and Security Act (TDPA) applies to any business handling personal data on Texas residents, with enforcement through the state Attorney General's office. Energy operators face additional NERC CIP requirements for critical infrastructure protection and EPA reporting obligations that constrain where operational data can live and who can access it. A modernization plan that does not account for these from the start creates compliance debt faster than it retires technical debt.
Our team is based in India on IST (UTC+5:30). Houston runs on CDT in summer (UTC-5) and CST in winter (UTC-6), which puts us 10.5 to 11.5 hours ahead. We close most of that gap by scheduling a 30-minute standup at 7:30 to 8:00 pm IST, which lands at 9:00 to 9:30 am CDT, the first hour of the Houston workday. That window handles blockers, decisions, and quick clarifications each morning your time.
Outside that overlap, we work async on Slack or Microsoft Teams. Every two-week sprint ends with a recorded demo and a written summary you can review at your own pace. Code review comments go into GitHub with a 24-hour turnaround target. Architecture decisions, integration specs, and data migration plans are documented in Confluence or Notion so nothing depends on a single person's memory or a call you missed.
On-site visits are not a standard line item, but we can arrange them for major milestone reviews on request.
We do not have a Houston client we can name publicly. The two completed projects most relevant to Houston's industries:
Global EHS Platform Modernization (industrial and energy compliance): We rewrote a VB.NET monolith for a global Environmental Health and Safety software company, migrating it to .NET 8 and React on Azure. The platform manages Management of Change workflows, incident tracking, LMS training scheduling, and automated compliance reporting. This is the same compliance-driven operational software stack that energy and chemical companies in Houston run every day. Outcome: improved scalability and global performance with all compliance workflows intact post-migration. Read the EHS platform case study.
Stock Market Analytics Platform (financial services): We replaced a spreadsheet-based investment analytics workflow with a role-authenticated Azure dashboard with automated data scraping and real-time financial metrics including P/E ratios and earnings schedules by sector. Most applicable to Houston's wealth management and family office market. Read the StockScrapping case study.
We have not delivered a project for an upstream oil and gas operator or a Houston hospital system. We will say so plainly during the discovery call rather than oversell the fit.
Our legacy modernization engagements range from $60,000 to $500,000 with timelines of 16 to 52 weeks. Here is how scope maps to cost:
Add 15 to 25 percent for TDPA, HIPAA, or energy-sector regulatory overhead. Each non-trivial third-party integration adds $3,000 to $12,000. All pricing is in USD. Full cost breakdown at our legacy modernization pricing page.
Three steps. First, book a 30-minute discovery call. No NDA required, no sales deck. We ask about your current stack, what is blocking you, and what a successful outcome looks like in 12 months. Second, within five business days we send a scoping document: recommended migration approach (almost always strangler-fig rather than a big-bang rewrite), team structure, timeline, and a fixed-price or time-and-materials quote. Third, if you want to proceed, we agree on a start date and kick off sprint one within two weeks.

Yes. All of our client engagements are fully remote. For Houston specifically, our India-based team overlaps with CDT business hours from approximately 9:00 to 11:30 am daily. We use Microsoft Teams or Slack depending on client preference. For Texas clients with TDPA obligations or energy-sector data requirements, we architect data residency into the solution from day one. Production data defaults to Azure US regions, typically East US or South Central US (physically located in San Antonio, Texas), and we do not route Texas resident personal data through non-US infrastructure without explicit client approval.
